Real Madrid 4-0 Getafe

There was no real action in the first 45 minutes of the match, but the flood gates would open up in the second half, mainly thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo in the second half, scoring a hattrick.

However, Sergio Ramos got the scoring going in the 53rd minutes for the all whites. Angel Di Maria hung up a corner from the right side which found Ramos inside the 6 yard box after Getafe ‘keeper Moya was left flat-footed thanks to Ricardo Carvalho.

Ozil led a counter-attack and released Ronaldo who did the rest. Ronaldo cut back inside and hit the ball low, behind Moya. At this time it was 2-0 to Real Madrid. They would add a third thanks to another Ronaldo goal, but this time it was Di Maria providing a cross and all Cristiano had to do was head the ball home.

Luka Modric would be fouled inside the 18 yard box with about 18 minutes left to go in the match. CR7 hit home from the spot to get all three points and make the Real camp a little happier.

Dundee United 1-1 Ross County

First chance of the match came from Dundee United’s Barry Douglas when he whipped in a free kick from the right hand side of the pitch. Defender Gavin Gunning rose, uncontested to meet the ball, however, his header found the side netting for United.

Just six minutes later, Rocco Quinn, County midfielder, hit a bullet from 25 yards out. Unfortunately for County, the ball went just wide of the target.

About halfway through the first half played a lovely through ball for Ivan Sproule. Sproule quickly crossed into the United box, but Sean Dillon was able to clear the danger for his side.

United’s first half pressure paid off in the 52nd minute. Mackay-Steven hit the ball left-footed, which proceeded to curl away from County’s Brown. It was a truely impressive strike which gave a 1-0 to United which was a lift to the home fans, because their last home match was a 4-0 squashing in the hands of Celtic FC.

United’s home woes would continue to mount in the 82nd minute when Richard Brittain would level the match for County with little time left on the clock.

Sproule ran down the right flank, uncontested, waited for the right moment and picked out Brittain superbly. Brittain fired the ball into the top corner of United’s goal gaining a point for Ross County.

Chelsea Debutant Scores a Braces

New Chelsea man Demba Ba got his first run out with the club in yesterday’s 3rd Round FA Cup Clash with Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium with only signing for the club yesterday morning.

Chelsea got off to a sluggish start after falling behind early thanks to a strike from Jay Rodriguez. Rodriguez was able to get behind English center back Gary Cahill after Jason Puncheon played a beautiful diagonal ball right to Rodriguez’s feet. Turnbull did his best by closing him down quickly but the striker did well with a nicely placed finish into the back of Turnbull’s net at the 21 minute mark. However, the Saints would not hold onto this lead for long.

Ba leveled the match in the 34th minute for his new London club. Hazard was playing out of position briefly on the left hand side of the pitch when he attacked the box. The Belgian international found Juan Mata in the area who proceeded to chip the Southampton keeper. Ba then raced quickly to the ball just to make sure that the defender didn’t have a chance to clear the ball off the line and hammered it home.

The Blues would take the lead right before half time when Victor Moses was picked out from a square ball from Ashley Cole. Moses hit the ball with a huge amount of power and sent it into the back of Boruc’s net.

Chelsea scored five minutes into the second half when Mata worked the ball close to the byline where he crossed the ball into the box and found the head of the Serbian international defender, Ivanovic. This was Ivanovic’s 6th goal this term. He had 6 goals all of last season.

Demba Ba scored his second goal of the evening when Hazard played a low powerful diagonal ball into the box. Ba made a brilliant run to get to the ball. He hit it towards the near post and scored.

Lampard scored the fifth goal of this 3rd round match up for Chelsea from the spot. He tried to deliver a ball to the German, Marko Marin, but a Southampton defender got his arm to the ball and was awarded a penalty.
